A woman held against her will by a truck driver walked into a Las Cruces truck stop looking for help.

The 49-year-old woman from Louisiana managed to escape while her kidnapper slept, according to Las Cruces police. They said the victim walked into the TravelCenters of America Thursday asking the store clerk to call 911.

Police detectives interviewed the woman and found out she knew her kidnapper, 54-year-old William Joseph Taylor of California, through her husband.

Taylor and the woman met on June 13 in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he offered her a ride.

She told investigators during the ride, sometime between June 13 and June 18, she did not want to ride anymore with Taylor. According to the woman, Taylor refused to let her go and forced her to remove her clothing.

In order to keep her from leaving, Taylor bound the woman's hands and feet with duct tape, said police.

The woman was able to escape the rig Thursday morning while Taylor slept.

Taylor was placed under arrest at the TravelCenters of America located in 202 N. Motel Blvd. in Las Cruces. He is being held at the Dona Ana Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $50,000.
