Woman abandoned at Burger King in 1986 reunited with birth mother

atheryn Deprill was abandoned in a Burger King when she was a baby. Since then, she has searched for her birth mother. Thanks to the power of social media, her search paid off.

Deprill, 27, of South Whitehall Township, Penn., finally met with her mother and her mother's husband on Monday. Allentown, Penn. attorney John Waldron arranged the meeting between mother and daughter.

"There was hugs and tears, and it was just really exciting and emotional," Waldron said. "It was really fun seeing something this happy and this joyful."

On Sept. 15, 1986, Deprill was found as a newborn in the bathroom of a Burger King on South 4th Street in Allentown. Later, she was adopted. Earlier this month, she posted a picture about her search on Facebook, which led to the reunion. Accompanied by family on both sides, a meeting was arranged and took place.

Concerning the circumstances surrounding Deprill's abandonment, Waldron said that the mother was "raped in a foreign country and gave birth to Katheryn in her bedroom."

"Back in that day, it wasnâ??t like she could take her to a hospital without answering questions. She left the baby in a location where the baby would be found and cared for. She kissed the baby on the forehead and left."

The birth mother was not identified. Though Deprill declined an interview, she said that she and her mother plan to stay in touch and build a relationship.
