Winter weather is no match for Santa Claus

Santa Claus meets with children at Northwest Texas Hospital

The annual Center City Electric Light Parade has been cancelled due to extreme winter weather.

"We felt it would be dangerous for the spectators, the participants on the floats, our volunteers and the families who would come out. We felt we had to cancel the outdoor portion," said Beth Duke, executive director of Center City.

However, a little trouble from Mother Nature won't put a damper on the city's holiday spirit.

Santa Claus will still be visiting downtown and other places around the city.

"Santa's very popular and sure, Santa ... will make as many appearances as he possibly can and get ready for the big day coming up pretty soon," said Santa Claus.

He visited Northwest Texas Hospital on Friday to meet with children and deliver gifts. Children waited in line for their chance to take a picture with Santa and receive a gift.

Santa will also make an appearance at the city Christmas tree lighting on Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

This is event is sponsored by Center City of Amarillo, Parks and Recreation, the City of Amarillo and the Civic Center.
