Police: Vehicle crashes into Target after woman caught shoplifting; suspects in custody
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) - Two people were arrested in Carson County after the vehicle they were in crashed into the front glass doors at the Target in Amarillo Tuesday afternoon.
According to Amarillo Police, a woman was trying to shoplift at the store but got caught. That's when a man driving a dark gray or black Ford pickup drove into the front doors and the shoplifting suspect got into the pickup. The vehicle then fled the scene, but was followed by a citizen who was able to provide updates on the location of the suspects' vehicle to police.
The pair was caught after a pursuit by the Amarillo Police Department and Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers on eastbound I-40 ended in Carson County. DPS was able to use spike strips to stop the pickup, which crashed into the median. Both suspects got out of the pickup after it crashed and tried to run, but were apprehended, DPS said.
The vehicle was later found to have been carjacked out of Albuquerque Tuesday morning.
According to the Carson County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), both suspects were checked out by EMS before being taken into custody.
CCSO said the man and woman are being booked into the Carson County Jail.
