SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico state police say a winter storm is shutting highways and causing difficult driving across northern New Mexico.
Interstate 25 is been closed from Las Vegas to Wagon Mound due to zero visibility and snow packed and icy conditions. Heavy snow and an accident have closed NM 38, from Bobcat Pass to Eagle Nest. And blizzard like conditions shut U.S. Route 64 from Raton to Clayton, where as much as 15 inches of snow is expected.
Los Alamos National Laboratory and a number of schools have closed as the storm moves across New Mexico and into the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles and parts of Kansas and Colorado.
Central New Mexico is expected to be spared the brunt of the storm, but hazardous driving conditions are still expected along Interstate 40 east of Moriarty. Albuquerque could get up to four inches of snow.
