Update: Woman attacked in Amarillo home

Update: Police have identified the suspect as Gusman Pierre, 23. Police say Pierre is a Haitian immigrant from Mississippi. He is charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit an assault.

Previously Posted: Amarillo Police are investigating the overnight attack of an Amarillo woman.

According to police, the woman was walking into her home in the 2600 block of Linda when the suspect approached her and asked for something to smoke. The suspect then followed her into the building and attacked her when she opened the front door of her apartment. The victim was beaten in the face and told police she believed the suspect was trying to sexually assault her. The suspect also demanded money. However, the victim fought back causing the suspect to flee the scene. Paramedics responded to the scene but did not take the victim to the hospital.

As officers interviewed witnesses to the attack. They were directed to an apartment located in a different building where they found a male who matched the suspect description. After being interviewed by police, the suspect was arrested and booked into the Potter County jail.
