Unmarked police car hit in traffic stop attempt

At approximately 7:45 p.m. an Amarillo Police Department officer in an unmarked car was traveling north on Interstate 27 when the officer tried to stop a speeding driver.
According to APD, the speeding driver abruptly exited at the Moss Street exit when the officer started his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the speeder. The officer quickly changed lanes and was struck by another car causing the officer's vehicle to spin around. The driver of the vehicle that hit the unmarked police unit was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The officer suffered minor injuries in the collision.
APD said, The driver of the speeding vehicle did not remain at the scene and has not been located. At this time police are searching for a 2011-2013 Black Ford F150 4-door crew cab. The collision is currently under investigation.
