University police seek information in rape investigation

University police at West Texas A&M University are investigating reports that a female student was sexually assaulted at McCaslin Apartment on November 16, 2013.

According to the University Police Department they received the anonymous report on November 19,2013. Investigators said that the victim has little to no memory of the incident and they suspect that date rape drugs were used on the victim. At this time all resources have been made available to the victim.

In October another female filed a rape report with UPD. UPD said the adult female student was sexually assaulted on October 30, 2013 in Jones Hall between the hours of 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The incident involved an adult male WTAMU student and that the victim knew him. UPD arrested the suspect involved on November 4, 2013.

UPD and WTAMU encourage students and staff to be active in their own safety. They offer these tips to remember.

Be aware of your surroundings at all times.

Group or public settings should always be used when meeting an online acquaintance or date for the first time.

Remember that alcohol begins to impair your judgment with the first drink.

Be aware of your drink and do not leave it unattended.
