Sun, 22 Dec 2013 01:01:12 GMT —
UPDATE: DPS says southbound 87 from Dumas to Amarillo is now open. Northbound 87 from Amarillo to Dumas remains closed.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, U.S. Highway 287 is still closed at this time. TxDOT crews are working at this time to improve current road conditions.
TxDOT said if you are stuck in the snow there are some things you should keep in mind. According to TxDOT those that are stuck should only run their vehicles for 15 minutes at a time and then turn them off. Doing so will allow you to warm up but it will help you conserve fuel.
TxDOT also said if you are stuck, please remain with your vehicle. The Texas Department of Public Safety is working to assist stranded travelers so it is advised if you are stuck do not leave your vehicle.
TxDOT crews will be working through the night to clear roadways. If you would like more information on road conditions visit TxDOT's Highway Road Condition web page.
