Two people narrowly escaped an early Sunday morning fire.
The Amarillo Fire Department was called to 2008 North Arthur around 7:28 a.m. According to the department, the fire was at or near the rear of a mobile home. A shed located behind it was also on fire. Firefighters from the first two crews on scene were able to quickly knock the fire down that was also threatening two other structures. Authorities say the mobile home did not have working smoke alarms and did not alert the residents of the fire. One person had to break a window to escape the fire. Authorities say two people did get hurt in the blaze. One person was taken to the hospital for treatment, however, the extent of their injuries are unknown. Another person refused on-scene medial treatment. No firefighters were hurt.
Authorities say the total property damage is estimated in excess of $2500. The Texas Panhandle Chapter of the American Red Cross is helping the family with temporary housing. Representatives from the Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office remained on scene to investigate the cause of the fire which is unknown at this time
