Tip leads to arrest of man accused in Friendly Discount robbery

Amarillo police have arrested a man accused of robbing the Friendly Discount store in March.

According to police, Amarillo Crime Stoppers got information on the possible suspect, 56-year-old Jason Anthony Long. The information was passed on to Robbery Squad investigators, who ended up arresting Long earlier this month.

Long is accused of robbing the Friendly Discount, located at 2900 S. Western Street, on March 26. Police said the suspect in the robbery showed the employee a gun in a holster on his right side during the robbery. In the days following the robbery, APD released photos and video taken from security footage of the robbery suspect.

Police said Long was seen at a store in the 800- block of North Western Street on April 6. Officers arrested him for two misdemeanor warrants for driving with a suspended license and expired motor vehicle inspection.

Long was interviewed by Investigators, police said, and booked into the Randall County Jail on the warrants. The following day, April 7, a charge of Aggravated Robbery against Long was accepting by the Randall County District Attorney's Office.

APD said Long is still in custody at the Randall County Jail and the felony Aggravated Robbery charge was added on top of his other charges.
