      Thirty pounds of marijuana found during traffic stop

      The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) discovered 30 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Wednesday on IH-40.

      The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) discovered 30 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Wednesday on IH-40.

      At approximately 7:34 A.M., a DPS trooper stopped a 2014 Ford Fusion traveling eastbound on IH-40, for a traffic violation, near Conway in Carson County. The driver of the Fusion was identified as Richard L Chaplin, 58, of Joplin, Mo. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered 30 pounds of marijuana in the trunk valued at over $130,000.

      Chaplin was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony, and booked into the Carson County Jail. The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from San Francisco to Joplin, Mo.
