Texas shoppers smash windows to save children from hot Jeep

Brave shoppers in Katy, Texas, jump into action, smashing open a car after spotting children inside.

CNN -- Brave shoppers in Katy, Texas, jump into action, smashing open a car after spotting children inside.

It was more than 90 degrees outside, and the rescue was caught on camera. Shoppers in a strip center parking lot noticed two small children in a hot jeep.

Gabriel del Valle said he stepped out of his nearby shop after he heard the sound of children crying out in desperation.

One man shot a video with his phone. Others used a hammer to smash open the windows. The adults struggled to open the doors because the child lock was on.

After several minutes, the children were freed. Their mother said she left them in there to get a hair cut.

The mother came out of the salon, pleading with everyone on the scene. The police were not called.
