Texas Rangers investigate after man shot, killed by deputy in Kress
KRESS, Texas (KVII) —
The Texas Rangers are investigating after a 33-year-old man was shot and killed by a Swisher County Deputy.
According to the SCSO, the incident happened on August 3, around 8:30 p.m., when off-duty Deputy James Boyd went to a home where he found Garrell Byrd armed with knives at the home.
SCSO said while Boyd was at the residence, something happened that led Boyd to shoot Byrd one time.
Boyd has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure following any officer-involved shooting, as Texas Rangers continue their investigation.
The SCSO could not answer anymore questions and deferred any other inquiries regarding the shooting to the Texas Rangers, since the investigation is ongoing.
