AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Austin police say an off-duty officer had no choice but to shoot and kill a pit bull that was attacking a smaller dog at a pet store. Authorities say off-duty officer Leslie Lyons was working security at the store Wednesday when the pit bull ran through the store after escaping its owner and attacked a Maltese. Officials say Lyons cleared the area before shooting the pit bull.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Batman comic book cover will be sold next month in Dallas by Heritage Auctions. The 1986 cover to "The Dark Knight Returns" No. 2 was drawn by writer/artist Frank Miller. It's the first cover from the "Dark Knight" series to be sold and is expected to fetch more than $500,000.

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Southeast Texas police say no injuries were reported after several train cars derailed in downtown Beaumont. Officials say the derailment happened yesterday afternoon. A large amount of grain spilled in the area, and cleanup crews will begin work today.

HOUSTON (AP) - Texas residents are being given the chance to name the full-sized space shuttle replica that will be displayed at Johnson Space Center's visitor center. Space Center Houston is running its "Name the Shuttle" contest through Labor Day. Residents can enter the contest by submitting an original name online at
