DALLAS (AP) - A Mexican man has been returned to Dallas after a lengthy investigation to face charges that he raped two girls. Police say Jose Rico was linked to two crime scenes with DNA evidence. He was charged in 2009, but was deported by immigration authorities while out on bond. Authorities brought him back to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport yesterday.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A state lawmaker wants to put an end to Texas cities banning plastic bags. State Representative Drew Springer has filed a bill that would make all plastic bag bans invalid. The Republican says such bans advance a "misguided nanny-state agenda." Advocates say the ban reduces litter and helps the environment.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow is scheduled to speak at an event in Corpus Christi next week. The local YMCA is holding an event Wednesday called "Celebration of Collaborations." Local YMCA president Jim Scoville says the event is expected to focus on the importance of hard work and the Christian faith.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Texas volunteer group has joined in the search for a missing school teacher in New Orleans. Texas Equusearch launched a boat in Bayou St. John yesterday and used sonar equipment to search for 26-year-old Terrilyn Monnette. She was last seen leaving a New Orleans bar on March 2nd.
