AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Propane tanks have been found inside a Central Texas apartment that exploded in what police call a drug-related blast. Two people suffered burns and Austin authorities detained a third person at the scene of yesterday's explosion. Police say it appears the unit occupants were "cooking" marijuana to extract psychoactive ingredients.
DEL RIO, Texas (AP) - A South Texas man has pleaded guilty to smuggling cash for a county commissioner facing bribery and money laundering charges. Prosecutors say Jose Aguilar of Eagle Pass pleaded guilty yesterday to aiding and abetting bulk cash smuggling. Co-defendant David Gelacio earlier pleaded guilty to the same charge.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - State public safety officials say Mexican cartels pose the single greatest organized crime threat to Texas. The Department of Public Safety announced this week the findings from this year's Public Safety Threat Overview. DPS says it believes six major Mexican cartels are currently operating in the state.
DALLAS (AP) - The Dallas Museum of Art has received a $17 million gift to expand its collection of European art before 1700. The museum yesterday announced the gift from trustee and past chairman Marguerite Steed Hoffman. The gift more than doubles the institution's acquisition endowment.
