HOUSTON (AP) - Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has praised the National Rifle Association as "warriors" defending the U.S. Constitution. Santorum told NRA members that the Bill of Rights and the Second Amendment "come from God." He also said the debate over gun control is one over the country's core traditional values.

WEST, Texas (AP) - The fertilizer plant in West that exploded and killed 14 people last month had been a target of burglars. Many who broke in to the factory tried to steal anhydrous ammonia to use in methamphetamine production. Sheriff's deputies had been called to the facility more than 10 times in the 11 years before the blast.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A man has been sentenced in North Texas to 10 years in prison for operating a Ponzi scheme. Jeffrey Sykes was also ordered to pay nearly $17 million in restitution. The $40 million scheme bilked dozens of investors who believed they were trading in U.S. Treasury bills.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Closing arguments will be Wednesday in the Texas trial of five men charged with using a horse racing and breeding operation to launder drug money for a Mexican cartel. Both sides have rested in the case linked to an Oklahoma ranch that prosecutors say was a front for the Zetas. All five men are charged with money laundering conspiracy.
