BOERNE, Texas (AP) - A South Texas police officer has been placed on administrative leave after being charged with shooting an arrow into a neighbor's cat. Police in Boerne say Officer Lance Deleon wasn't on duty when the cat was wounded. Veterinarians say the 2-year-old cat is expected to recover. Deleon is charged with animal cruelty.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - Jurors are set to begin deliberations in the bribery trial of a former South Texas district attorney charged with helping a crooked judge. Closing arguments are today in the trial of ex-Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos. The defense rested its case yesterday after Villalobos testified in his own defense.

DALLAS (AP) - Wildlife officials in Texas are reminding boaters to drain, clean and dry their watercraft to help prevent the spread of zebra mussels. State regulation requires boaters on lakes Texoma, Lavon, Ray Roberts and Lewisville to drain their boats, including live wells and bilges. Zebra mussels can expand their range by hitching rides on boats and trailers.

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - Former President George W. Bush is hosting a 100-kilometer mountain bike ride at his Central Texas ranch for wounded military members. The second day of the bike ride begins today. Fifteen veterans wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan are participating in the ride.
