FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - A judge is expected to decide whether an Army psychiatrist can tell jurors he shot U.S. troops at Fort Hood to protect Taliban leaders in Afghanistan. Major Nidal Hasan has said he wants to use a "defense of others" strategy at his upcoming military trial. The judge is also expected to rule today on Hasan's request to delay the trial for three months.

GEORGETOWN, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas lawyer has been convicted of shooting at a census worker in 2010. Jurors in Georgetown today will consider the penalty for 56-year-old Carolyn Barnes of Leander. Census employee Kathleen Gittel testified Barnes fired five shots as the worker tried to verify the lawyer's house number.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A South Texas man convicted on 88 counts of molesting children has been sentenced to life in prison. Sixty-year-old David Loven received his sentenced yesterday in San Antonio. Prosecutors say Loven would sexually abuse the children and also photograph and videotape the victims.

MECHANSVILLE, Va. (AP) - Six chimpanzees at a private zoo in Virginia will be sent to the Houston Zoo after their owners were denied permits. Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo says the chimps will remain together at the Houston Zoo's African Forest exhibit. The Chicago zoo's Project ChimpCARE worked with the Virginia zoo's owners to find a new home for the chimps.
