AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas senators plan to meet to consider placing more restrictions on abortion. The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is set to meet this afternoon in Austin. Lawmakers will consider banning abortions after 20 weeks, allowing abortions only in surgical facilities and placing greater restrictions on abortion-inducing medications.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - A South Texas man who thought he was talking online with a mother offering her daughters for sex has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Thirty-year-old Daniel Barrientos was sentenced yesterday in federal court. Prosecutors say an undercover police officer portrayed herself as a mother seeking an adult to have sex with her juvenile daughters.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A beef cow in North Dakota that originated in Texas has tested positive for bovine tuberculosis. Animal health officials say the cow has been removed from the herd and killed. Results of additional testing are expected within two months.
GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - A Carnival Cruise Lines ship is scheduled to set sail four months after an engine fire left it to drift for days in the Gulf of Mexico. The Carnival Triumph is expected to sail today from Galveston on a four-night cruise to Mexico and the western Caribbean. The ship became disabled during a February cruise of the Caribbean.
