FORT BLISS, Texas (AP) - A chaplain at a West Texas military post has been sentenced to six months of confinement after pleading guilty to assault and battery on a female civilian. Fort Bliss officials yesterday announced the penalty for Major Geoffrey Alleyne. Officials say the charges stem from a series of encounters last year between Alleyne and a civilian employee.

IRVING, Texas (AP) - A man has been critically wounded following an exchange of gunfire with Dallas-area police officers. Irving police say the suspect had an assault rifle and started firing at officers last night when they responded to a domestic dispute. The suspect was shot multiple times and no officers were hurt.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A West Texas congressman has asked a federal agency to investigate all El Paso County school districts amid a cheating scandal at some campuses. U.S. Representative Beto O'Rourke yesterday made the request to the Department of Education. A federal audit recently found several district schools prevented some low-performing students from taking required exams.

NEW YORK (AP) - EPL Oil & Gas Inc. has moved its corporate headquarters from New Orleans to Houston. President and CEO Gary Hanna says the move allows EPL to tap into the "deep pool" of geoscience and engineering talent. It also gives the company access to energy-focused banks and business partners in Houston.
