AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Texas House has approved transportation funding and new sentencing rules for 17-year-olds convicted of capital murder. With the 30-day special session ending at midnight tomorrow, lawmakers passed the bills early this morning. A measure banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy must clear a final House vote after getting preliminary approval this morning.

WEATHERFORD, Texas (AP) - A dog found in North Texas with her muzzle taped shut now has a happy list nearly a year after her rescue. The female pug-mix was found last July in Parker County with the muzzle shut on her swollen tongue and stab wounds. Sheriff Larry Fowler says the dog named Hope is now in a loving home after surgeries and therapy.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A state workforce training initiative for military veterans is being expanded from four to 10 colleges and universities. The Texas Workforce Commission says it's awarding $1.5 million to support the College for Credit for Heroes. The commission says it's adding programs at schools in San Angelo, Austin, Denison, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

DALLAS (AP) - The U.S. attorney's office in Dallas is hosting a meeting with members of a delegation from Mexico shaping changes to the country's judicial system. The meeting between prosecutors, judges and delegation members begins this morning. Mexican courts are undergoing major changes to how criminal defendants are tried.
