AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - It's the Texas Senate's turn to take up new abortion restrictions. Former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum has asked lawmakers to show their support for House Bill 2 on the Capitol steps today. Thousands of protesters supporting and opposing the bill have flooded the Capitol during its time in the Legislature.

GRANITE SHOALS, Texas (AP) - A 12-year-old boy has been charged with arson after a Granite Shoals mobile home fire left an 8-year-old dead and a woman hurt. The youth remains in juvenile custody on a charge of arson causing bodily injury or death. Investigators haven't said whether the boys and the woman are related.

PORT ARANSAS, Texas (AP) - A South Texas pier has been closed after a ferry lost power and crashed into part of the walkway. Port Aransas (uh-RAN'-suhs) police say nobody was hurt when the ferry hit the Station Street Pier. The ferry had about a dozen vehicles and more than 20 passengers on board when it crashed.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - A South Texas man faces up to life in prison for his role in a drug and contraband smuggling ring linked to a state prison. Prosecutors say Juan Ledezma (luh-DES'-muh) acted as an intermediary between drug traffickers in South Texas and Mexico. He could also be fined up to $8 million.
