IRVING, Texas (AP) - Governor Rick Perry is speaking today for the first time since announcing he'll forgo a bid for re-election. Perry announced earlier this week that he won't seek a fourth full term next year. He'll speak to a military veterans' group in Irving today as observers await his announcement of future political plans.
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Beaumont police say three girls attacked a postal worker after she refused to give them money last week. Two girls were arrested yesterday and another is still being sought. The postal worker was hit on the back of the head last week. Each of the girls faces a third-degree felony charge of attempted robbery.
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (AP) - An anonymous donor has provided $500,000 bail for a teen jailed on a terroristic threat charge for writing that he was going to "shoot up a kindergarten" on Facebook. Justin Carter was released yesterday after being jailed since April. Carter says what he wrote on Facebook was "terrible, mean and downright stupid."
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - The Fort Worth Zoo is asking the public to help find a name for its new 330-pound baby elephant. The public can vote on the name either by paper ballot at the zoo or on the zoo's Facebook page. There are six names to choose from - Belle, Maggie, Rose, Ruby, Sage and Tujuh.
