CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - A California man seeking sex with Texas children has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for trying to get woman online to arrange the encounters. Thirty-four-year-old Jeffrey Howard was sentenced yesterday in Corpus Christi. Howard was convicted in April of soliciting a child for sex through the Internet.

WYLIE, Texas (AP) - A third big cat has died at a North Texas animal sanctuary where officials are trying to stop the spread of canine distemper. A spokeswoman for In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue and Education Center in Wylie says a male tiger died yesterday. More than 20 exotic cats at the center have been diagnosed with distemper in recent weeks.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - The board of managers for a West Texas school district rocked by a cheating scandal will consider possible replacements for an imprisoned administrator. Leaders of the El Paso Independent School District begin interviewing candidates today to replace ex-superintendent Lorenzo Garcia. He was sentenced to more than three years in prison last fall.

FORT BLISS, Texas (AP) - Fort Bliss officials are set to make an announcement regarding the future of the West Texas Army base. Bliss spokesman Major Joe Buccino says there will be a "major announcement" today. Due to the planned reduction of the Army, Fort Bliss stands to lost one of its four brigade combat teams.
