DEL RIO, Texas (AP) - A former first-grade teacher in South Texas caught with more than 1,000 sexually explicit images has been convicted of child pornography charges. Ruben Vazquez was convicted receipt of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and access with intent to view child pornography. Vazquez was placed on leave and later fired from the school.

HOUSTON (AP) - A Houston-area sheriff's deputy is being investigated after his K-9 dog died of heat exhaustion. The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the dog died after the deputy became distracted and left the dog in the car. He says the deputy is a 20-year veteran of the sheriff's office and has been with the K-9 unit for 12 years.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - Deliberations will continue in Brownsville today in the case of a deputy U.S. marshal accused of revealing an undercover agent's identity to a convicted drug smuggler. Lucio Moya testified in his own defense on charges of obstruction and accessory after the fact. Prosecutors say Moya's father was in a drug ring.

HOUSTON (AP) - A memorial service has been scheduled for the son of J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson. Jay Perry Richardson spent his life tending the legacy of his early rock-and-roll performing father. "The Big Bopper" recorded the hit single "Chantilly Lace" before he died with fellow rock-and-roll stars Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens in a plane crash.
