EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A man authorities say was a border gang leader affiliated with a Mexican drug cartel contends he was tortured after his arrest for the slaying of a U.S consulate employee. Arturo Gallegos Castrellon (gah-YEY'-gohs kas-TREY'-yahn) is awaiting trial on charges related to the killings of consular employee Leslie Enriquez Catton, her husband and the husband of another consular employee.

ROBINSON, Texas (AP) - A pilot has escaped injury after his single-engine plane flipped while taking off near Waco. Crosswinds caused the aircraft's left wing to hit the ground and turn upside down late yesterday east of Robinson in McLennan County. The 49-year-old pilot was the only person aboard the crop duster and wasn't hurt.

DALLAS (AP) - Billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban will take the stand today in his insider-trading trial. The jury verdict in the trial of the Securities and Exchange Commission lawsuit could come down to whether jurors believe his account of a 2004 phone call. The SEC says that phone call led to him selling of shares in an internet company.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Fort Worth state Senator Wendy Davis is expected to announce her campaign for governor. Her campaign is setting the stage at the civic center where she received her high school diploma in Haltom City. The launch will start a long campaign to break an 18-year losing streak for Democrats seeking statewide office in Texas.
