EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A man who allegedly became combative with police in West Texas has died while in law enforcement custody. El Paso police say an autopsy has been ordered on the 36-year-old man who was pronounced dead Sunday at a hospital. Witnesses say the suspect was acting irrational and violent early yesterday as if under the influence of drugs.
DALLAS (AP) - Police in Dallas say a pregnant woman has been killed by an armed robber. Stephanie Terlisner was shot Saturday night inside a home in the Southeast Oak Cliff neighborhood. Police have not identified a suspect or released any possible identifying details.
DALLAS (AP) - A handful of vendors at the State Fair of Texas have been busted for selling alcohol to a teenage girl working undercover. Each of the seven will pay a fine and won't be allowed to serve alcohol for two days. The fair prohibits vendors from selling alcohol after 10 p.m. and restricts customers from buying five beers in a single purchase.
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - The president and publisher of the Richmond Times-Dispatch has been elected president of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association. Tom Silvestri succeeds Digby Solomon. The board also approved Lissa Walls Vahldiek as a trustee. She's vice president and chief operating officer of Southern Newspapers in Houston.
