AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Jurors are hearing testimony in the punishment phase of Brandon Daniel's capital murder case. They'll decide whether Daniel will get the death penalty or life in prison for fatally shooting Austin police officer Jaime Padron (HY'-may pah-DROHN') nearly two years ago.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected the National Rifle Association's appeals over limits on the gun rights of young adults. Justices have upheld a Texas regulation that prohibits most 18-to-20 year olds from carrying a handgun outside the home.

GATESVILLE, Texas (AP) - Coryell County in Central Texas is dealing with a rabies outbreak. There have been nearly 30 cases since the beginning of last year. Most of them involve skunks. Coryell County isn't included in an expanded state anti-rabies program where small packets of vaccine are dropped from airplanes.

VICTORIA, Texas (AP) - A former housing commissioner in Victoria County has been indicted on theft and fraud charges. Federal prosecutors say Raquel Garcia of Victoria cheated the government out of almost $300,000 over a 15-year period. She faces up to 10 years in prison.
