Terrific Thursday for Texas Panhandle football

What a Thursday night of football for fans in the Pro News 7 viewing area. Action from the Metro-Plex, thru the South Plains and up to the Panhandle. Two college games and two high school games and a most excellent night as all four favorites won.

The 4th ranked West Texas A&M Buffaloes rallied from a 21-3 first quarter deficit to beat 18th ranked Chadron State. The Buffs finally got untracked in the second half after trailing 24-6 at the break. A combination of improved defense and offense led the rally. Sergio Castillo kicked a field goal with 49 seconds to play to give WT its first lead and then an interception with seconds to play as Chadron attempted a late score, secured the 34-31 win. it's the second straight time the two have played a wild game as WT won a playoff game last year over the Eagles 38-30. The Buffs now 2-0 on the season and will play thier home opener next Saturday against A&M Commerce.

In Lubbock, Texas Tech's starting quarterback Baker Mayfield left the game in the fourth quarter with what appeared to be a leg injury. Freshman backup Davis Webb threw a 19 yard td pass to Bradley Marquez with 3:48 to play to lead Tech to a 20-10 victory over 24th ranked TCU.

On the high school scene, two metro schools opened week three of play with wins as both teams stayed unbeaten thru three games. Caprock rallied late to beat Estacado 30-26 while Canyon had no problem with Plainview, rolling to a 42-3 victory.
