A 19 year-old Amarillo teenager has been arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center for robbing two Amarillo motels and attempting to rob a third. Police released the following release.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. On Saturday officers were dispatched to the Super 8 Motel at 2103 Lakeview Dr. on a robbery that just occurred. The 43 year old female clerk reported a tall Hispanic male, medium build, entered with his hand under his green shirt. He also had a second shirt pulled over his head.

The clerk immediately recognized this as a robbery and fled to the back room just as she heard the male make a statement about shooting her. After he left, she discovered only her personal property had been stolen. At approximately 1:40 a.m, officers were dispatched to the Residence Inn at 6700 I-40 West on an attempted robbery by a male matching the same description. The male broke out the glass of a secured door and began demanding money from the 34 year old male clerk.

The suspect fled without obtaining any money from this hotel. At approximately 1:50 a.m. the same male robbed the Hampton Inn at 6901 I-40 West. The 21 year-old male clerk here stated the suspect demanded money while making gestures indicating he may have had a gun under a shirt wrapped around his hand. An undisclosed amount of cash and the register till were taken. Officers were spotted up on numerous hotels when a silver and blue 2001 Chevrolet 1500 backed into a spot at the Baymont Inn at 3411 I-40 West.

A male matching the suspect's description exited and began walking toward the front door when he spotted the patrol unit. He was apprehended while trying to get back to the truck. The cash and till from the Hampton Inn, as well as the personal property belonging to the clerk from the Super 8, were recovered in the truck.

Additional evidence linking the male to the attempted robbery of the Residence Inn was discovered. The suspect arrested was Amarillo resident Lawrence A. DeLeon, 19 years of age.

He was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on two counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery. A 19 year-old female who was in the truck was arrested for minor consuming alcohol and has not been charged in with the robberies.

The Amarillo Police Department does not yet know if DeLeon is involved in any of the other robberies yet, but it is under investigation.
