Every few years, there seems to be a legal alternative to marijuana making it's way around the internet and around the area ,and the newest candidate is called, K-2.
Synthesized and legal cannabinoids, related to the active ingredient THC in pot, are added to a herbal blend to create the K-2 mixture. It's readily available as incense and sold online at dozens of different websites, for roughly 25-30 dollars per gram.
Locally, police say it's a cyclical type of problem and even though they've seen it on the net it hasn't been a problem here so far.
Corporal Jerry Neufeld says, "We've seen this thing in the past where people literally smoke twigs and weeds growing wild, and people use them as an attempt to get high and some of those have been almost fatal. Not saying this is anywhere near that, but it's not something we're seeing a problem with." He added, "We've probably got some people who've experienced it, it's just not something to the point where we're worried with it. I honestly can't tell you if it's being sold here and I know you can buy it online, but I don't know of anyone local. So, whether we see an impact from it, it's really too early to tell."
Pronews 7 made some calls and were able to locate the K-2 mixture for sale locally in Amarillo.
