Suspect arrested after police chase


A man is in custody after leading police on a car chase around town Thursday morning.

It all started when police attempted to pull over a man and two women at I-40 and Lakeside. The male driver took off leading police on a chase down I-40, then back down the boulevard and into the San Jacinto neighborhood.

The suspect slowed down and let the two women out around 1st and Virginia and police backed off.

The women took off down the alley and were later caught by officers.

APD, Potter County, and DPS Troopers joined the search after they found fresh tracks in a field off NW 11th and the pickup he was driving abandoned.

Alton Caswell, 39, of Amarillo was later spotted in a caliche pit and booked on numerous charges. The charges include Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle, Fraudulent Possession of Identifying Information, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

An investigation by APD detectives has also led to the recovery of a stolen travel trailer. Inside the trailer police found numerous pieces of personal identifying information, such as checkbooks, and fake driver's licenses to match the checkbooks. A license plate from a vehicle that was stolen on Tuesday was also found.

As the investigation continues additional charges may be filed.

It started around ten, when officers began following a stolen car on I-40. Troopers followed the suspect down I-40 to Soncy, then down Amarillo Boulevard to Western.

The suspect allegedly stopped to let two women out of the car, before eventually abandoning the car in a field near Western and the Tascosa County Club, and fleeing on foot.

DPS, Potter County, and Amarillo police searched the area and caught the suspect around 10:30.
