Students observe Potter County Government in action

The Potter County Commission declared today Potter County Government Day during their regular meeting Monday morning.

The meeting was held on the 11th floor of the Santa Fe Building, their old location.

Sixty-five students from River Road, Highland Park, Tascosa, Palo Duro, Amarillo High and Caprock attended.

Six of them were allowed to sit with Commissioners.

There was reportedly a heated exchange at one point.

Highland Park Student Myles Smith said he thought Commissioners were going to "go at it at one point."

River Road student Dalton Tallent said, "There was a moment when the Judge and one of the Commissioners didnâ??t agree with something and I was stuck in the middle of it so it was awkward."

The event was organized by Commissioners H.R. Kelly and Mercy Murguia.

Murguia said, "They will soon choose to serve so what better environment to get them engaged?"
