At approximately 10:15 pm, 32-year-old Juan Ramon Ortega came out and was taken into custody after a standoff with Amarillo Police.
The standoff started at around 10:00 am when APD officers received information that a wanted person was in a building in the 1000 block of SE 10th street. Ortega had an outstanding Parole Violation warrant.
When police tried to apprehend him, he ran back inside the building and barricaded himself inside.
Ortega was believed to be in possession of a firearm so additional officers and SWAT officers were called to the scene. After hours of no contact with Ortega, APD negotiators, APD Bomb Robot and the rest of the APD SWAT team arrived to the scene.
After Ortega came out and was taken custody, he was transported to Potter County where he was booked into jail on the Parole Violation warrant.
