Stack Up Compeition shines in Region 16 Education report

Students everywhere are working on their hand-eye coordination while setting a Guinness World Record.

They're doing it by stacking cups.

Students around the world, including kids at Gene Howe Elementary are doing this. We're featuring the Stack Up Competition in this week's Region 16 Spotlight Education report.

"We are participating in the Speed Stack Guinness Book of World Records . They're trying to beat the number of stackers that are stacking for 30 minutes in a 24 hour time span ," said Janet Sheen, Gene Howe Elementary P.E. Teacher.

The goal is to have a huge number of students stacking cups all over the world. How many?

Last year's record was 316,000, so more than that!

Gene Howe Elementary 3rd graders have been practicing for three weeks. But, it's not just fun and games, it's also about coordination.

"It works very well with hand and eye coordination if you notice we have put some of the kids together it's great building team work. Right brain, left brain, the kids instead of using just their dominate hand, they're using both hands," said Sheen.

"I like that it makes your hands do exercise, to make them cooperate," said Brecken Huntington, 3rd Grader.

"Because I like to time myself and get better and better and go faster," said Berkley Huddleston, 3rd Grader.

If you want to learn how to become a fast cup stacker, all it takes is a little practice.
