Spring Break fun for the kids

Spring Break is underway and that sometimes means kids are sitting at home watching TV and complaining about being bored. But parents, there's plenty happening around town to keep your kids occupied.

The Amarillo Public Library and Discovery Center are hosting events throughout the week sure to keep a smile on your kids faces. Even though they're on vacation, doesn't mean the learning stops.

It's entertainment for kids of all ages every day this week at the Amarillo Public Library and Discovery Center.

"At the Amarillo Public Library this week we have lots of activities going on at different locations around town different times of day, but every single day this week there's something going on for kids and teens so they can have something fun to do," said Public Relations Coordinator of the Amarillo Public Library.

Those fun things include crafts, story time, super hero training and even a Science day. All activities encourage reading.

"Reading is the single most important skill that you're going to need it for everything you need it to do math, you need it to do science, you need it to do any profession that you're going into," said Clopton Yates.

At the Discovery Center kids are doing more than just reading. They're using their brain and imagination.

"The thing I love about the Discovery Center is it's a great family place to come, its very safe you can let your kids roam free. We've got the Kings Challenge where we're going to take recycle materials and just build castles and whatever they want out of it," said Discovery Center's Mandy Reid.

Reid said they're expecting to see anywhere from 1,000 to 1200 people a day. "It's very creative and lets kids show compassion and creativity," said 10-year old Miles.
