Shots fired in Colonies neighbrhood

The Amarillo Police Department was called to a house in the Colonies after it was reported that shots were fired.

Police Officers were called to the 7600 block of Continental Parkway just after 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning after a 911 call. The caller was the male resident's wife. She reported that she and her husband had been involved in a dispute that had become physical. She decided to leave. She was in the driveway attempting to leave when the man retrieved a handgun from his vehicle. He was talking to her and fired one shot from the gun, police said that was into the air. There was a brief verbal exchange as the woman then backed out of the driveway. As she drove away, she heard a second shot, which police was also shot in the air.

Officers that responded attempted to make contact with the man who police identify as 43-year old Greg Scott McCoy. They could hear noises in the garage that led them to believe McCoy was there, but they could not make contact with him to determine if he was still armed. At this point, the APD Special Weapons and Tactics team and Negotiation unit responded. At about 6:00 a.m., officers said they saw McCoy attempt to close the electric gate between the alley and the driveway. Officers entered the garage area and were able to reach McCoy in the garage area and take him into custody.

McCoy was taken into custody. He was booked into the Randall County Jail for discharge of a firearm within a municipality with a population over 100,000, a class A misdemeanor. There was no evidence or indication that he had any intent to shoot the female. Officers recovered a handgun from the garage and two spent 9mm cartridge casings from the alley behind the driveway. There were no injuries in the incident.
