Two updates have been released on last night's apartment complex shooting.
First, responding officers saw a white Toyota pickup driving away from a group of people standing around the injured victim outside the complex. The officers stopped the vehicle and determined that the occupants were not involved in this incident.
The driver, Orlando Garza, 42, was found to be wanted on a parole violation warrant and was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.
Secondly, officers interviewing the gunshot victim at the hospital found that he had provided a false name at the scene. He has been correctly identified as Matthew Santiago Barrientez, 24.
He had an outstanding warrant for bond forfeiture on an original charge of pssession of a controlled substance. After he was treated for injury, he was booked into Potter County Detention Center for the Randall county warrant and failure to identify while a fugitive.
Investigation disclosed tha the shooting happened in an upstairs apartment.
No other information is available on the individual that fired the shot or the circumstances that led up to it.
According to Sergeant Hill of the Amarillo Police Department, officers received a call that an individual had been shot at 1223 South Roberts Street.
They arrived and found a Hispanic Male of approximately 25 years of age had shot in the lower leg. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is still ongoing and the authorities do not yet know who the shooter is. The man who was shot has still not been interviewed.
Crowd control was called in after the shooting to prevent onlookers from entering the scene, but that was unrelated to this incident.
