Second highest Mega Millions jackpot drives people to take a chance

The jackpot for Tuesday's Mega Millions is $636 million, making it the second highest in history.

The highest Mega Millions jackpot was in 2012 for $656 million.

Many Americans were hoping that they would hold the lucky ticket for Tuesday's drawing.

Tony Winn, bought several tickets today. He said he doesn't usually buy lotto tickets, but this time, he couldn't resist.

"The money," Winn said. "I mean, it's a chance to have a good Christmas, a great Christmas."

The odds of winning are about one in 175 million. There are also over 200 million possible number combinations.

Winn said he would use the money to retire and take care of his family.

For one woman, this was an opportunity to spread some holiday cheer.

Teena Porter bought 20 tickets for herself and 20 individual ones to give to her coworkers.

"It would be great," Porter said. "They are all pretty much minimum wage workers, so if they were able to get it, that would be a blessing for them."

If no one wins the jackpot Tuesday or Friday night, the amount could increase to $1 billion.
