Search continues for 2 Texas jail escapees

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas (AP) - Two East Texas jail escapees have spent a rainy night on the run as the search intensifies for the capital murder suspect and the convicted drug offender.

The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office says Brian Allen Tucker of Sulphur Springs and John Marlin King of Cumby were still at large Wednesday. The air and ground search that ended late Tuesday night was resuming at dawn Wednesday as rain fell in the area.

The inmates fled Tuesday morning from the jail in Sulphur Springs, about 75 miles northeast of Dallas, by scaling a fence or slipping through a gap.

Tucker faces trial in the 2011 slaying of Bobby Riley of Mahoney. King pleaded guilty last month to drug possession as a habitual offender and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
