SCU investigates Potter County homicide

Joseph Lee Hamel was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace. Janice Mae Sicard was taken into custody for murder. Investigation is ongoing.

On May 12 at approximately 9:30 a.m., Potter County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to 210 W. Mobley, unit 29, on a call that someone had been shot.

When deputies arrived, they found a male who was deceased. It appeared that the male had a gunshot wound to his upper body.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Justice of the Peace Debbie Horn ordered an autopsy. It will be performed in Lubbock next Monday.

The victim was identified as Joseph Lee Hamel, 56.

A female was also present and she was detained by deputies.

Janice Mae Sicard, 65, was booked into the Potter County Correction Center for Murder.
