During the last week The Curry County Sheriff's Office has been receiving complaints of a telephone and internet fraud scheme wherein the perpetrator(s) are portraying themselves as Curry County Sheriff's Deputies.
Reports indicate that a male stating he is a Curry County deputy has been calling citizens and stating that they missed a court date and must remit money via the internet to avoid being arrested for failing to appear court. The male further advises that if the payment is not immediately sent, deputies will respond and arrest them.
The Curry County Sheriff's Office and other area law enforcement agencies will NEVER solicit payment for fines over the phone.
If you have received a call of this nature, and have sent any money, please contact The Curry County Sheriff's Office at (575)769-2335.
A similar scam was reported in Potter County in mid-March.
