River Road ISD investigating social media rumors of threat against high school
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) —
The River Road Independent School District is investigating after rumors of a possible threat made to the high school began spreading on social media.
The Facebook post that was shared on some Amarillo group pages Wednesday evening stated a student made a threat to shoot up the school on Friday during a pep rally. RRISD Superintendent Richard Kelley says at this point, they are investigating the Facebook post. He did not say there was any actual threat made.
Kelley said the District takes any and all rumors very seriously and investigate them. As of Thursday morning, they are investigating the post that began circulating Wednesday night, Kelley said.
Those investigating include the principal at River Road High School, as well as the assistant principal and a Potter County Sheriff's Deputy.
As of Thursday morning, Kelley said they have not seen any threat but they are still taking the rumor seriously and thoroughly investigating it. He said the pep rally is still scheduled and the school has planned to go forward with normal school activities.
RRISD said privacy laws limit what can be discussed specifically about the case.
