Mon, 27 May 2013 03:12:11 GMT — Memorial Day is national holiday marked to remember the brave men and women who died while serving our country and also marks the unofficial start to the summer. Amarillo residents have been out celebrating the holiday all weekend long. With temperatures peaking in the mid-90s, many were out enjoying the day outdoors while trying to stay cool. Places like the Thompson Park Pool and Memorial Park were packed with people all day long. â??Itâ??s a nice day to enjoy the day. Itâ??s a beautiful day to go swimming,â?? said Poncho Garcia. Lifeguards were kept busy keeping track of the full pool as many wanted to beat the heat by going out swimming. â??Usually we always have a family outing but today we decided on coming to the swimming pool,â?? said Tina Jordan. â??Itâ??s hot so we decided to all of my grand babies and all of us came so weâ??re just out having a good time.â?? Many kids enjoyed Memorial Park for the outdoor sprinklers and the different sections of the park filled with different activities to do.
