A power outage in a popular area of Amarillo is causing a traffic hazard for those out shopping Saturday afternoon.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, because of the outage traffic lights on 34th and Soncy and at Coulter north to I-40 are not working. Officers are directing traffic and say to expect delays if you are driving in the area. Pronews 7 also spoke to a Westgate Mall official who said they do not have power along with Target and Best Buy.
Xcel Energy spokesman Wes Reeves explains, "We have about 2,800 customers in west Amarillo without power. The cause is unknown, but restoration personnel are working the problem".
Officials are asking shoppers avoid this area.
