Potter County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning to area residents due to recent fraud phone calls.
PCSO has been notified that citizens have received phone calls claiming to be affiliated with the PCSO and trying to collect on a payday loan. The caller even tried to obtain credit card information and claimed a warrant would be issued for the citizen if they did not pay on the loan immediately.
According to PCSO, the citizen said they caller ID number was the same number as the PCSO.
PSCO wants to inform the public about these fraudulent calls. PCSO said that the Sheriff's Office will not contact warrant holders in attempt to collect money over the phone. These calls are a scam or a collections agency.
PSCO said do not give out identifying information over the phone to anyone unless you initiated the call. Keep tabs on your credit report and report issues to the credit bureau.
