Portales peanut company closes

Portales-based Sunland Inc. has closed its doors. Sunland Vice-President Paul Newsom tells Pronews 7 the company is closed as of today. He would not provide any further details about the closing.


Inc., the country's largest organic peanut butter processor, was linked to a salmonella outbreak in September 2012.

The company recalled more than 100 nut and peanut butter products after the outbreak. 41 illnesses in 20 states were linked to some of those.

After shutting down operations after the outbreak in September 2012, Sunland Inc. re-opened production in March 2013.
