Portales man found guilty of drug trafficking

Drug sting leads to trafficking charges and jurors find the man guilty.

Jurors find a Portales man guilty of selling methamphetamine to a undercover informant during a drug sting as part of a regional drug task force.

Abran Baeza, 23, of Portales was found guilty, on a charge of trafficking a controlled substance, after jurors deliberated just 15 minutes.

Baeza had been arrested in July and was being held in the Roosevelt County Detention Center. On September 27, 2013, Baeza escaped through the ceiling of the jail, and was recaptured later that day, and had been kept in custody since that time.

Ninth District Attorney Andrea Reeb, new to the office, announced the guilty verdict. The case was successfully prosectued by Assistant District Attorney Quentin P. Ray.

Baeza's sentencing date has not been announced.
